What Organizations Need to Know

Organizations can refer clients for free services at no charge to the client. Private-pay services are paid directly by the client unless a grant, sponsor, contract, or other funding source covers the cost. Medicaid/insurance billing is used only for services that are actually covered and after all required enrollment, credentialing, authorization, and documentation requirements are met.

Reentry Services Are Not Automatically Insurance-Billable

General reentry planning, housing referrals, transportation referrals, employment referrals, and resource navigation should not be presented as insurance-covered services simply because a client has Medicaid or another insurance plan. Coverage is determined by the specific service, payer, eligibility, and program requirements.
